Coffee is an essential part of many people's daily lives. But in summer, when the thermometer reaches high temperatures, people often don't feel like drinking hot coffee to warm them up. That's why there's a cold version of coffee - iced coffee. No one knows who came up with the idea, but it was probably a genius ;)
Iced coffee is basically classic coffee, but it does not need to be boiled. The basic ingredients are ice and coffee (espresso). The rest is up to your imagination.
Here are 5 recipes and ideas for making a refreshing coffee.
1. CLASSIC iced coffee
You will need: espresso or doppio (double espresso), 2 dcl milk, ice
Procedure: Make an espresso and let it cool (you can add sugar if you want). Whip the milk with a shaker or whisk. Pour ice into a tall glass, add the prepared iced coffee and slowly top up with the whipped milk. Sprinkle the prepared iced coffee with ground cinnamon, chopped nuts or chocolate.
2. DALGONA iced coffee
You will need: 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of boiling water, 250 ml of milk, ice.
Procedure: Mix the coffee, sugar and boiling water in a bowl. Beat these ingredients with a whisk or hand mixer until creamy (about 5 minutes), you should get a pale brown creamy consistency. Put ice cubes in a medium glass, add cold milk and top with the prepared coffee foam.
3. TONIC iced coffee
You will need: espresso, tonic, ice lemon
Procedure: Fill the glass with ice and tonic. Prepare an espresso and pour it slowly over the rim of the glass with a spoon so that the tonic does not mix with the coffee. Lemon can be added to the prepared drink.
4. Iced coffee WITH ICE CREAM
You will need: chilled espresso, milk, ice cream, syrup
Procedure: Pour the coffee, milk and syrup of your choice into a shaker or sealable glass and mix. Add ice cubes, mixed coffee mixture and finally a scoop of ice cream.
5. Iced coffee as COFFEE GROUNDS
You will need: espresso, milk, syrup
Procedure: Prepare the coffee and freeze it as ice cubes. Once frozen, crush or mix the coffee ice and put it in a glass. Cover with some cold milk. Pour syrup over the top or sprinkle with chocolate chips or crushed nuts.
TIP: Classic iced coffee can be combined with maple syrup, condensed milk or caramel.
Bonus: Homemade caramel syrup – recipe:
You will need: 250 g granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 130 ml water (50 and 80 ml successively)
Procedure: Mix the sugar, lemon juice and 50 ml of water in a saucepan. Heat on a medium heat. Do not stir, just shake the pan slightly. When the syrup reaches a dark amber colour, gradually (3 times) add the remaining water and wait until the syrup starts to boil again. Then remove from the heat and leave to cool. Caramel syrup prepared in this way will keep for several months in a closed bottle.
